I didn’t go into this movie with too many expectations because I assumed it was a younger kid movie and I was not within the target audience, but I discovered that I liked this movie more than I expected! Oz the Great and Power Full gives audiences a look into the story that set up the original “Wizard of Oz” movie (although according to some friends, it is a completely different prequel of the original than portrayed in “Wicked” the musical). Parts of the movie are animated, parts are live action, but most is a combination of the two. Pros -Many elements (phrases, iconic symbols, characters) were similar to and foreshadowed what occurs in the original “Wizard of Oz” movie. (One of the main reasons I really liked this movie) – Animated parts of the movie were very colorful and visually beautiful -Cast for the most part was able to play their characters well -Loved the way the movie started out black and white Cons -Costumes fell a little short in my opinion. I felt like more detailed clothing and props could have been used -SPOILER: Where were the ruby slippers? -SPOILER (and opinion) Ending the movie with the house falling on Evanora, ready to pick up right into the original ‘Wizard of Oz” film, would have been a way to make the movie even better I recommend this movie for pretty much anyone, but I believe that people who know the original story of “Wizard of Oz” would enjoy it even more. Some scenes could scare small children, although this is not really a scary movie; there is plenty of humor.

A really interesting concept for a movie, with an incredible ensemble of talent to provide the voices; however, this film pales in comparison to other animated films currently in the theaters. I enjoyed this film; however, ‘Wreck It, Ralph’ was far more superior on almost every scale imaginable (plot, humor, content, graphics, nostalgia, etc). The “Guardians” are a group of immortals comprised of North (Santa Claus) voiced by Alec Baldwin, Bunny (The Easter Bunny) voiced by Hugh Jackman, Tooth (The Tooth Fairy) voiced by Isla Fisher, and Sandy (The Sandman) who gestures rather than speaks. Their whole existence on the planet is the protection the children of the planet; however, they can only exist if the children of the world still believe in them. Once the children no longer believe that a Guardian is real, their facade, magical powers and abilities will diminish, and start to fade away. The villain of this film is Pitch Black (voiced by Jude Law). He is the keeper of nightmares. He once reigned supreme during the Dark Ages; however, the ‘Guardians’ have been able to keep him under control for several centuries. Pitch has been able to strengthen his powers by manipulating the dream powers of Sandy, The Sandman. His goal is to methodically zap the powers of each ‘Guardian’ one-by-one, by having the children of the world start to doubt their existence; while simultaneously getting his presence into their mindset thus making him a stronger force to be reckon with. Once Pitch Black destroys the ‘Guardian’ alliance, the children of the world will be at his mercy. Perhaps the two (2) best things that this film has going it are Santa (North) and the Easter Bunny (Bunny). Both are great characters. The scenes showing North, his Yeti staff (which actually do all the work at the North Pole), and his incompetent elves (which I just adored); is simply genius. The rivalry between North and Bunny is great comedic levity, and adds much candor to the storyline and plot. Making Bunny a 6-foot tall, boomerang-throwing Australian accented entity was an interesting choice. The decision of Dreamworks to release this first film during the Holiday Season is questionable at best, because this film is in no way a holiday movie. The timeframe for this film is three (3) days prior to Easter… I can only assume that Dreamworks felt that having a movie poster featuring Santa on it would lure family audiences into the theater seats. So be warned, this film really has nothing to do with Christmas!!!! Again, this is not a bad film; however, it’s not a great film either. I would wait, and save seeing this film for home viewing. I’d much rather pay to see ‘Wreck It, Ralph’ a second time than suggest that you spend your hard earned money to pay and see ‘Rise of the Guardians’ in theaters. Just my personal opinion.

Have you ever felt like you were stuck in a role you never wanted to play? Constantly subjected to scorn and ridicule simply for performing the only task available to you? What if you could change that? Fix-it Felix Jr. has been a popular game in Litvak’s for years. The hero and titular character, Felix (voiced by Jack McBrayer) has a magic hammer that can repair any damage done by the game’s villain, Ralph. When the game is over, Felix is given a medal while Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) is tossed off the roof by the tenants of the building he failed to destroy. When the arcade closes and the game is turned off, Ralph returns to his home atop a garbage heap in the nearby dump. For recreation, he visits Tapper’s, a vintage game that assigns the player the role of a bartender. Also, upon our introduction to the story, Ralph makes his first visit to a support group for video game villains. Among the villains in attendance at Bad-Anon, we see M. Bison and Zangief from Street Fighter (voiced by Gerald C. Rivers and director Rich Moore respectively), a ghost from Pac-Man (voiced by Kevin Deters), and a zombie (Raymond Persi). During that meeting, he announces he no longer wants to be a bad guy. With the 30th anniversary of Fix-it Felix Jr., the tenants throw a party and “forget” to invite Ralph. Ralph crashes the party, in every sense of the word, and leaves soon after. Before he’s left, he vows to return with a medal, something denied him by Felix and the tenants of the building he destroys. He seizes the opportunity to travel to a new game, a first-person shooter game called Hero’s Duty, when a character from that game passes out in the bathroom. While at the center of Hero’s Duty, Ralph is overwhelmed by the violence in modern games and refuses to heed the orders of his superior, Sergeant Calhoun (voiced by Jane Lynch). Once the arcade closes and the game ends, Ralph decides to forgo the usual hurdles of Hero’s Duty and steal the medal typically awarded to the winner. After stealing the medal and, unwittingly, bringing a menacing enemy insect known as a Cy-bug with him, Ralph heads to the kart-racing game Sugar Rush. It’s there that he encounters the perpetually glitchy and terminally annoying Vanellope von Schweetz (voiced by Sarah Silverman). Despite the initial friction, Ralph and Vanellope (Silverman) bond over their shared status as outcasts. There is, of course, more to the story including Felix’s pursuit of Ralph into the various other games and his budding romance with the no-nonsense Sergeant Calhoun, the true origin of Silverman’s character, and an eventual revolt in the world of Sugar Rush. All of it, and I do mean all of it, had me riveted. I will say that, as a fan of old-style video games, I would’ve preferred seeing the character of Ralph travel to more than just the two different games besides his. Regardless of my criticisms, Wreck-It Ralph is hilariously entertaining and fun for viewers of all ages. Check it out.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA wasn’t as clever (nor as fun) as I imagined. I even went for it during my birthday; since 2009 I’ve been celebrating my birthday by going to the cinema and this year I had three potential choices: THE WATCH, DREDD 3D and this one. It was a question of time that I ended watching “Transylvania” over THE WATCH, which was the one I truly wanted to enjoy. Anyway, I have to mention that one of the trailers I got to watch was the one of the upcoming Disney film WRECK-IT RALPH; it seems that “Ralph” will not miss the chance to deliver really clever material out of a mash-up of classic characters (video games characters, like Nintendo’s Bowser, in that case). “Transylvania”, on the contrary, missed its chance with the classic “Universal Monsters” (Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, the Mummy, the Invisible Man) and some others monsters. It’s clear that the whole horror atmosphere was the reason I wanted to check this one out. Here’s a piece of advice for anyone who wants to watch it as well as a horror fan, looking for some nice and fun references or something like that: watch this year’s PARANORMAN instead, or something like MONSTER HOUSE (Gil Kenan, 2006), as there’s pretty much nothing worthy of admiration here. Well, there’s something nice in the last section of the film and I will explain it to make a point. The core of the storyline is that Dracula (voice of Adam Sandler – definitely his best or better said, his only honorable work in the last years) built a place for any monster that wanted some peace; a hotel nowhere nears a human civilization. So we have monsters that basically don’t know humans; the nice thing comes when they finally go out and get to see some horror fans (in a way this thing is like that with Johnny Deep, as an 18th-century vampire, waking up in the seventies, from DARK SHADOWS); eventually, there’s a terrific joke on the TWILIGHT thing: we have Dracula (or “Drac”, as he is referred during the whole movie) totally disappointed after getting to see how humans represent the monsters by watching some TWILIGHT! Good stuff, right? However, the point I want to make is that there’s always a problem when a movie that judges how awful the horror genre has been treated lately is itself making, for instance, a Kanye West sort-of rapper out of Dracula. I mean, I get it, I get that right from the first scene of the movie we are going to watch a different version of Dracula, as, after all, this is a kid’s flick (in fact, we have Dracula as a single father!). However, the whole thing is sort- of annoying, even if you accept it as something completely unrelated to the classic monsters. It’s one of those, like the last MADAGASCAR, with lots of things going on. There’s a lot of noise but nothing that truly gets you or that makes you laugh hard (there are, nevertheless, some funny bits involving the Invisible Man). That’s on one hand, and on the other we have a formulaic story about an over-protective father and love. In conclusion, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA is average material that totally wastes its main attraction.

We saw the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Days movie” and my husband and I absolutely loved it. The Wimpy Kid movies are John Hughes style movies but focus on Jr. High School instead of High School. Believe me, Jr. High School was much more difficult to survive than high school. Jeff Kinney takes his story about a kid (Greg Heffley) trying to grow up and survive middle school, family dynamics, and relationships. This film, like the others, takes these experiences and makes them relatable and hilarious for anyone of any age. Although it is apparent that the cast is growing up, (since this is the 3rd movie in the very popular series), I found that it really didn’t matter because we relate to the issues and problems Greg is experiencing and not his physical presence. No one said anything about the Harry Potter kids getting older and the same holds for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I didn’t find myself focused on the kids ages because you get lost in the laughs, and enjoyment of the film as the gags get bigger and funnier in this 3rd installment to the popular movie series. The kids are exactly at the place their supposed to be in real life – 14 years old. For us it added to the “realness” of the story and characters portrayed. I hope they make more of these films and continue on into High School, as these stories and films are truly honest and bonified entertainment for the whole family. They don’t talk or play down to kids, they don’t moralize, they don’t try to get you to “see the light” as other family films do. If you allow yourself to lay back in the theater seat and let go of yourself for 94 minutes, you will be transported back to a time we can all relate to in our lives. Zachary Gordon is back, in excellent form, as the main character, Greg Heffley. This is a very complex character from Kinney’s books and Zach Gordon deserves a lot of credit for continuing to carry these movies to new heights (no pun intended-see the ride on the Revolation which gets up to 3-4 “G’s”). It has actually been a lot of fun for our family, following him as he matures in character and life. He is blossoming into a really fine actor with a big future ahead of him. One of the best things about this new movie is the relationship between his character and his father played wonderfully by Steve Zahn. We get to follow a very “real” father/son relationship in this film with all their ups and downs and emotional discourse. This is a dose of “reality” for anyone and is definitely a must see for any dad who has sons or daughters and participated in the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Indian Guides, Indian Princess, or other father son/daughter activity. Brought back a lot of good memories for us. In this combination of the 3rd and 4th book – DWK: The Last Straw, and DWK: Dog Days, the film makes for an enjoyable roller-coaster ride in a comical “Summer” setting. The continued trials and tribulations of the main character – Greg Heffley, are made even more hilarious and complicated when Greg 1)fakes a job at a country club to appease his father, 2) goes on vacation with his best friends family, the Jeffersons, 3)tries to further a relationship with a girl- Holly Hills, 4)has to put up with constant aggravation from his older brother Rodrick, and 5) experiences communication and relationship issues with his dad. With all these intertwined story lines, this movie will have you in “stitches”. The scenes at the country club with his brother Roderick are just plain hilarious and embarrassing fun! Not much ever seems to go well for Greg, even when his best intentions are at stake, which of course, makes for fun movie entertainment. If you like honest, wholesome, non-animated, non-CG (3D) movies, then this ones a hit! For you critical people out there – this movie is not intended to be “Gone with the Wind”, just good old fashioned film entertainment for the whole family, that will sweep you away from the problems of today for a moment in time. Sisters will relate, brothers will relate, and mom’s and dad’s will get “teary eyed” over the in’s and out’s of Greg’s turbulent and very “real” relationship portrayed with his dad. If you want to laugh out loud, if you want just great movie entertainment with a connected and wonderful cast, especially the lead character, Zach Gordon, then go see this, must see, movie! You won’t be disappointed!

Having loved Aardman’s other work, especially Wallace and Gromit, Creature Comforts, Chicken Run and Shaun the Sheep, I was much looking forward to The Pirates! And I found myself loving it. Apart from sagging slightly in the pace in the middle with a couple of scenes that could’ve done with more punch perhaps, it has all the attributes that made me love Aardman in the first place. For instance, The Pirates! is a marvellous looking film, you could really tell that a lot of creativity and effort went into it. The colours and backgrounds are plentiful and rich with always something interesting to look at, and the character designs are appealing with the title character reminding of a youthful Wallace with hair and a beard. The 3D is one of the rare instances where it enhances the visuals and action rather than detract from it. Theodore Shapiro’s music is enough to rouse the spirit, and does very well conveying a sense of adventure. The songs featured are fun and memorable. I also loved the crispness and wit of the dialogue managing to appeal to children and adults alike, and the story is exciting with lots of charm and heart. The characters appeal because of their larger-than-life personalities, true the names are on the generic side(Pirate Captain, Pirate with gout) but that was probably the attention. I did enjoy seeing the likes of Charles Darwin and Queen Victoria as well, and they especially Queen Victoria added a lot to the film. As for the vocal cast, the cast itself was one of the film’s main attractions and the voice work is first rate. Hugh Grant shows impeccable comic timing, and Salma Hayak voices Cutlass Liz with lots of sass. Jeremy Piven shows that he can do wonderfully with a character that is strongly-written and provides a good contrast to Grant’s Pirate Captain. Brendan Gleeson and Brian Blessed give rousing turns, David Tennant’s Charles Darwin charms and Imelda Staunton voices Queen Victoria as if she were born to do it.

Description

Touchback, directed by Ohio State alumnus Don Handfield, is a boiler plate sports melodrama enhanced by romantic music and clichéd aphorisms from the coach in the locker room. Kurt Russell is that coach and about as believable as any actor could be given the formula that demands everything work out well. The fantasy element of this film is essential given the flawed nature of the film. Scott Murphy (Brian Presley–35 years old, playing an 18 year old!) wins the state of Ohio high school championship in 1991 for his underdog team but suffers crushing damage to his leg. Without being able to get that OSU scholarship, in subsequent years he questions his fate as a limping farmer in his “backwater” village of Coldwater, Ohio, despite having a devoted wife, Macy (Melanie Lynskey) and two darn cute daughters. Oh, yes, his mother (Christine Lahti) is also supportive in her own way. This being Hollywood, he magically is given the chance to relive championship year 1991 over again. It is, however not anywhere in the league of It’s a Wonderful Life. That do-over gives the film liberty to roll out every possible cliché about the goodness of small town living, the importance of family, and the evanescence of fame. None of those maxims is wrong; it’s just that the music and the profound utterances lend an unreal gravity to a situation: underdog team, gifted but troubled quarterback, blah, blah. It’s all happened before in movies and TV with coaches giving the same inspirational speeches. It’s unforgivable to have the quarterback looking at his beloved in the stands while he’s figuring out the right play, and fantasy to have a 35 year old actor playing the lead. Touchback touches my heart the way all high school sports melodramas do: I’m so American that the underdog motif starts me thinking about the figurative element of sports victories in the face of insurmountable odds. Over 100 years ago, the odds were stacked against wagon trains making it West, and today a much bigger opponent plays on that same theme. Touchback adores Ohio State but never makes it to the cinematic end zone. Like the film’s team, the film will slip back into forgettable history.

Description

Dr. Seuss’s characters are so iconic and his stories’ messages are so clear and concise that they practically beg for cinematic treatment, even as their relative two-dimensionality and self-contained nature frustrate expansion into feature-length form. Consequently, even with a solid effort like Horton Hears a Who!, Seuss adaptations have a tendency to feel unnecessary, puffing up what was perfectly formed to begin with. Nonetheless, as far as such efforts go, The Lorax is a modest gem, failing to significantly enhance its source material’s ideas but still delivering a zany, rollicking, multi-character version of Seuss’s environmental cautionary tale, which director Chris Renaud infuses with a brand of bonkers humor in line with that of his prior work, Despicable Me. That’s most evident in his film’s conception of Seuss’s humming-fish and brown barbaloots (fuzzy bears) as sprightly, mischievous minion-like comedic relief creatures. Yet it more fundamentally extends to rocket-fueled narrative and visual pacing, in which the camera zooms, sways, and whisks about with manic energy, as if so taken with the bountiful Seussian sights of squiggly lined houses, pinwheel-shaped Truffula trees, and swelling and surging hills and valleys that it can’t wait to move on to gaze at the next kaleidoscopic wonder.

Beauty and the Beast is without a doubt one of Disney’s finest classics. The first animated film to ever be nominated for best picture and after you see it, you could understand and agree with it’s nomination. Beauty and the Beast is going to be one of those films that will always be remembered, I know that it’s a movie that I will show my children one day. It has unbelievably terrific animation, a beautiful story, lovable characters, and is just over all a perfect movie. I really love this film so much, I don’t think anyone couldn’t fall in love with it. Bell is just a simple girl in her town in France, she reads books constantly and her father is an inventor. They are sort of the outcasts of their town due to their “oddness”. But Bell is being pursued by the town hunk, Gueston, simply because she’s the one girl he cannot have. One day when her father’s inventions are about to be displayed at the fair, he gets lost in the woods and stumbles across a castle and is held prisoner. Bell goes after him and comes to the castle; it turns out that her father is being held by a beast who is cursed with this hideousness unless he finds a true love before a rose he has welts. Bell trades places with her father; the house also has living objects, a candle holder, a clock, a tea pot, all who are also cursed until the curse is broken. They look at Bell as the perfect opportunity for the beast to find a true love, but he must learn to be a gentleman, but Bell brings out the best in him and it turns out that this might be a happy ending after all. This was actually the first movie that I ever cried in, the ending was just so beautiful and heart felt, you’ll have to see what I mean. The songs are just so lovely and perfect for the scenes that they are performed for. Beauty and the Beast, the song, was just one of the most touching songs ever. This films is a major recommendation for me, it’s one of my favorite Disney films of all time, it’s a timeless classic that is just perfect and reached a new level of great animation.

Description

You don’t change the formula, not when it is one that has worked to amass a cool US$400mil worldwide per picture. So despite boasting a new director in the form of ‘Sky High’ and ‘Shrek Forever After’s’ Mike Mitchell, this third live-action adaptation of the classic animated TV series is surprisingly alike to the earlier two instalments. That’s going to be good news for those who loved both the first ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ as well as the ‘Squeakquel’- but for those hoping that this third outing will finally have the charm that eluded the first two, we’d like to warn you to be disappointed. Penned once again by the duo of Johnathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, the ‘Chipwrecked’ adventure uses yet another paper-thin plot to string together the hi-jinks of the singing and dancing Chipmunk trio as well as their female Chipette equivalents. Here, Alvin’s mischief while vacationing on a cruise with their kind beleaguered owner Dave (Jason Lee) leaves the Chipmunks and the Chipettes stranded on a desert island with a volcano that’s about to blow its top. Oh and did we mention Alvin’s hand-gliding stunt also lands both Dave and their arch-nemesis from before, Ivan (David Cross), overboard and washed up on the same, albeit different corner of the, island? It’s no secret how- let alone if- the Chipmunks and Chipettes manage to make it off the island alive, and not even the addition of a new character, Zoe (Jenny Slate), whom Aibel and Berger unabashedly models after Tom Hanks’ FedEx employee in Castaway, adds much life to what is really an awfully predictable plot. Admittedly, none of the Chipmunk movies have had much story, and to expect better from ‘Chipwrecked’ would therefore be a tall order. Like the previous instalments therefore, this one is simply content to coast on the ‘aw-shucks’ cute charms of the chipmunks. Indeed, each Chipmunk seems to be calculated to appeal to a certain demographic- whether the playful leader Alvin, the responsible brainiac Simon, or the adorably naïve Theodore, as well as the corresponding Chipettes Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor. Their incessant high-pitched bantering and bickering that unfolds at a lightning pace is still clearly the highlight of the show, not forgetting of course their regular song and dance numbers set to some of the contemporary chart- topping pop tunes like Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’, Willow Smith’s ‘Whip My Hair’ and Destiny Child’s ‘Survivor’. Like we said, it’s worked before- like a charm, if we may add- with family audiences, so expect more of the same this time round. A midway twist where Simon starts assuming an alter-ego in the form of Frenchman Simone after getting bitten by a poisonous spider tries to inject some novelty into the Chipmunks’ routine, but the initial appeal of watching the usually rational Simon turn debonair and somewhat impetuous quickly wears out its welcome. Faring slightly better is the budding attraction between Simon and Jeanette, manufactured nonetheless to elicit maximum geek appeal. Speaking of geek, those who loved ‘My Name is Earl’ may be dismayed to find that Jason Lee plays again the lead human character in the movie- and while the talented Jason looks like he could easily sleepwalk through the role, he does succeed in drawing out more than a few laughs in between his repartee with David Cross. Mitchell however displays little of the flair he exhibited in the superhero surprise ‘Sky High’ and his work here is as nondescript as his earlier in ‘Shrek Forever After’. Of course, the fault isn’t entirely Mitchell’s- after all, the template for the ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ live-action films have been pretty much fixed in stone after the resounding success of the first two movies. This three-quel is made only for those who have enjoyed both its predecessors, since ultimately it rehashes the same singing and dancing Chipmunk formula. Nevertheless, it’s fast becoming a foolish consistency, and the likely fourth entry better not just be simply another Chip off the old block.

So I saw this film today, and I was blown away. I’ll admit that the trailer didn’t impress me much, and if you do come out of it thinking that Hugo is just for kids, it’s not. It’s so much more than that. I had heard of Martin Scorsese directing a 3-D picture, but I didn’t realize it was this very adaptation. The book was a wonderful experience (go read it – the pictures within are like a film by itself!), and I can’t believe I didn’t think the 3-D medium would work for it. Absolutely brilliant. From the very first scene, you get a sense of how Scorsese is able to tap into the charm of 3-D – the essence of it – which is so easily lost amidst the abundance of films that get slapped with the 3-D label, but in a less cash-greedy industry need not warrant the extra surcharge. Scorsese takes his time to immerse the audience in Paris, in the train station, in Hugo’s everyday surroundings that may seem almost ordinary to him by this point but for us, it’s a whole different world. At times I forgot I was watching a live-action film because some of it was just so vibrant (yes, even with the automatic dimming of your 3-D glasses). The cast was wonderful – Asa Butterfield as the main lead, has got such expressive eyes that you feel the hurt when he thinks of his father (played by Jude Law), which is very often. Chloe Moretz partners him very well as a fellow adventurer, and of course, you’ve also got: Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helen McCrory, etc. to round out the characters. It’s such a fantastical but genuine story that you can’t help but fall in love with it, I think. Scorsese has brought a boy’s dream to life but also written a love letter to film-making. I won’t spoil anything outside of the trailer for fear of diminishing the magic, but I needed to write a somewhat coherent review to get my thoughts down, and hopefully persuade more people to watch the film! There’s heart, there’s magic, there’s wonder, there’s enjoyment, there’s a little bit of everything for everyone to love in this. Some parts had me misty-eyed with the wonderful score and the ode to the joy of film. And I know the mandatory 3-D will deter people but this film is one of those rare ones (and at the moment the only film so far this year that I can think of…) that extols the virtue of 3-D. I WEAR GLASSES SO I HAVE TO PUT 3-D GLASSES OVER MY OWN PAIR AND I WASN’T ANNOYED AT ALL – IT WAS WELL WORTH IT. So I’m speaking for that crowd right now. I know there are plenty of us out there! The genius of Scorsese strikes here, so pop in and have an adventure. :)

There are very few of us twenty-somethings who grew up without the Muppets. Between Sesame Street, Muppet Show reruns, and videocassettes of the various Muppet movies, we saw these guys all the time. We even had one or two theatrical releases of our own during the ’90s. (My personal favorite of those is The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is still annual holiday viewing.) In recent years, since the very underwhelming Muppets from Space, we’ve seen them pop up now and again, mostly in similarly underwhelming TV projects and in short (yet hilarious!) YouTube videos. I am quite happy to say that, in this newest movie, the Muppets are back in a big way! The movie starts by introducing us to a new Muppet, Walter, and his strangely human brother Gary. Gary has planned a trip with his girlfriend, Mary, to Los Angeles, and he is taking Walter along to visit the home of his heroes, Muppet Studios. They find the studio to be in disrepair, and hear of an evil plot to destroy it. Can the Muppets, and everything we hold dear about them, be saved? To get my one complaint out of the way, I do feel that this movie was a bit rushed in places. I wanted more time with these awesome characters, and it did feel as if they were trying to get from one place to the next a bit too quickly. That said, I spent nearly the entire movie with a smile on my face. These are the Muppets that I grew up with, doing what they are best at doing, with that gently edgy humor at which they have always excelled. While there are some moments that are very touching, it is mostly very funny, with lots of nods to The Muppet Show and The Muppet Movie. While new little Muppet fans should enjoy this, it will be much more meaningful to those who have a history with Kermit and Co. Clearly made with love for Jim Henson and his creations of fur and felt, The Muppets is the most delightful movie I’ve seen in theaters this year.

Happy Feet Two has all the allegorical animation requirements in one amusing story about a little penguin’s growth to self-knowledge and courage, a family that fights for each other, and an entire village of empire penguins determined to survive in the face of a daunting environmental catastrophe. And don’t forget the dancing penguin routines, now a part of our cultural memory because who would have ever thought such a conceit would work? In the case of this film, the dancing is central to the survival of the colony, all of which is just metaphor for having imagination and invincible spirit to overcome the odds. The chances for Happy Feet Two being sappy and repetitive were significant, but its ebullient spirit, gifted voices like Robin Williams,’ and a creative plot make the penguins an unlikely symbol of intrepid imagination. Anyway, when I hid in a trench in New Zealand to see the little lovelies trundle home as they always do at the same time each day, I was hooked to see an animation renewing our cultural romance with penguins and the beast fable itself.

I brought my 8 year old daughter with me to preview Dolphin Tale and we both LOVED it! This is a perfect family movie and I couldn’t recommend it enough. The message was positive and although there were some heavy topics addressed – it wasn’t over the top… you leave feeling good with lots to think about. This isn’t just a movie that encourages you to never give up. It did a great job bringing up real issues like self-image, pride, acceptance of those who are different, self-worth, homeschooling, importance of family, the power of a good family, the value of family. It addresses family relationships, friendship with those who are different, public school issues… oh, and so much more! This movie opens opportunity for discussion with your kids OR you can just go and enjoy the story. Can’t wait to see it again in September!

Of all the bad movies based on cartoon series and comic strips, this has got to be the worst I’ve ever seen, the story is simple, the smurfs try to get away from gargamel when all of sudden they get time traveled to what you believe New York City of all places then they meet a man played by an embarrassed Neil Patrick Harris who has so good in Clara’s heart and TV shows like doogie houser m.d. and how I Met you mother and some other woman to protect the smurfs or else gargamel will turn them into gold for what reason. Now the smurfs I Remember from the cartoon was funny, amazing and had a good heart, this one is just absolutely nasty, truly dreadful and truly, absolutely unnecessary. The Acting is in this one is either horrible, waste of talent, (what the hell is katy perry doing in this piece of junk, truly terrible), the screenplay is simply a big mess, the CGI effects are horrible, the 3D is trash, the musical score is full of crap and everything else is truly stupid and here are some things that I Truly hated about this movie That one smurf would shake his ass, one smurf would fall into the toilet after he blew his bubble, that the smurfs would also look at a Sony electronic billboard and guess who’s the subsidiary of Sony? You guess it Columbia pictures, the makers of this film and the same ones who did two dreadfully bad films like Leonard Part 6 and Ishtar almost 25 years ago. the makers of this piece of truly dreadful trash oaught to be ashamed of themselves, shame on them and shame on this movie. Kids might like this, because they haven’t seen the original cartoons. Peyo, Don Messick, Hanna-Barbera and others are rolling in their graves as we speak. This is the worst movie of the year.

After reading some of the reviews for this movie, it is absolutely clear that most of the previous reviewers didn’t get the point of the movie. It is a FAMILY movie. You don’t go to movies to see what you can pick apart, and then write a review that is already predisposed negatively against it. That’s just stupid. Anyone who goes into a movie with the attitude they are going to hate the movie no matter, and writes an extremely negative review is an idiot. The reason to go to movies is to be entertained. Zookeeper was a movie that entertained. The performances by all the cast members were very well done. There were a lot of laughs, and there was a lot of fun. My son, who by the way is 7, was in the perfect demographic for this movie. It had interesting characters, and situations. For an adult, a movie with talking animals might not be your cup of tea, but for a small child, it is awesome. Yes, a child thinks it’s funny when someone smashes into something or someone. Yes, for an adult, the movie might seem predictable, but truthfully, what movie isn’t somewhat predictable? A young child (for whom the movie was made for) isn’t going to be scrutinizing every tiny, single thing in a movie, just to say, ” A-HA! SEE, I KNEW IT!”. A child goes to the movies to be lost in imagination. My son laughed when there was a funny part. Whether it was funny because of the animals, or the humans, I heard a lot of laughter. And yes, I laughed a lot too, and so did my wife. I believe that anyone who goes into this movie with the understanding that this is a movie targeted towards families with young children, that they will be entertained. This movie hits the mark for the appropriate audience members it was made for.

I have always been a fan of AA Milne’s charming and whimsical stories since an early age. The 1977 movie The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh epitomised the childhood innocence that made the stories so wonderful, as did the TV series The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I also liked a vast majority of the various film and TV incarnations that were made between then and now. Ever since hearing of this movie I knew I wanted to see it. Part of me knew it would work, and for me when I saw it last night it did. My only complaint of Winnie the Pooh is the length, at barely an hour(exluding the credits and the short) the film is too short. Otherwise it is a wonderful movie that like the 1977 movie and TV series captures perfectly the childhood innocence that I know and love. Not only that, it is also a welcome return to the traditional animation style as seen with the original movie. Speaking of the animation it is great. I always felt The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh along with The Rescuers was the best looking of the 1970s Disney movies, it had an elegant and warm feeling to it. Winnie the Pooh maintains that elegant and warm feeling with colourful backgrounds, cutely drawn characters and ravishing colours. The songs and music heard in the movie aren’t quite classic status perhaps, but they are very memorable in the melodies and sweet in the lyrics. The dialogue is delightfully droll, with a lot for children and adults to enjoy. The story is structurally thin somewhat, but it is never dull thanks to the bright and breezy pace and the familiar yet absolutely delightful story lines including Pooh hunting for honey, Eeyore hunting for his tail and the search for the creature that Owl thinks has carried off Christopher Robin. The characters are engaging and wonderfully whimsical, Pooh is still endearing, Tigger is very funny and Piglet is cute. The voice acting is terrific really. These are not the original voice actors, and most of the voice actors(excepting Jim Cummings) in the likes of Tigger Movie, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie and Piglet’s Big Movie don’t return, but the new voice actors do make an effort to not sound too different. Jim Cummings still does a wonderful job as Pooh and Tigger, and John Cleese for me is the most thoughtful narrator of any Winnie the Pooh film since Sebastian Cabot. I wasn’t so sure though about Tom Kenny at first as Rabbit, but he being a very talented voice actor is also good. Overall, delightful, charming and a lovely nostalgic trip down memory lane, if only it wasn’t so short.

The main reason I was interested in this movie is because of Heather Graham; I know this is a children’s movie but you know children don’t go to the theaters by themselves and don’t buy tickets by themselves so I assumed filmmakers would keep in mind that adults are going to be in the theater as well; unless I suppose it’s aimed at the DVD market. The manic energy that comes from kids is there but really nothing more. The movie centers around Judy Moody who decides to quantify the quality of her summer break with points for doing daring things only to find that her friends are racking up more points by virtue of exotic locales and exotic camps. Aunt Opal (Graham) is there for the summer to look after the kids and she’s a guerrilla artist (and let’s leave it at that). The setup does promise an interesting look at various things like friendship – the cool friends who aren’t there against the not so cool friend who is there; the relationship between the free-spirited Aunt Opal and Judy; or Judy’s relationship with her brother who she seems to detest or the fact that their parents can’t afford to get her to expensive camps and trips. But, unfortunately, it really doesn’t do any of that – it just consists of kids of running around clumsily enacting one part after another of the story. This is where the adults would be annoyed – the story, characters going absolutely nowhere for an hour in the middle of the movie. If you’re going to see this with your kids, there is some redemption at the ending and have to brave through the middle parts. As for Heather Graham, I wish she was more in the movie; she barely even registers among all the chaos.

Description

Just as how Santa Claus stories work through their way through the Christmas period, Hop brings forward the Easter season some three weeks early with a kids film that combines the best of live action and animation in yet another talking animal story, which is something quite expected when you combine filmmakers who had worked on Alvin and the Chipmunks, and the producers of Despicable Me, who probably would have floated the idea that cute yellow things make for comedic villains since they’re going against type. Hop is a tale about sons being unable to live up to the ideals of their fathers, being told what is expected, being seen as soft and unable to exert any say in what they really want to do in life. When we first see EB (or short for Easter Bunny, voiced by Russell Brand), “plush toy” comes to mind for its incredibly cute design when the wide eyed bunny tours and allows the audience to see first hand what would be the equivalent of Santa’s operations that the Easter Bunny adopts, with multitudes of chocolate and candy making machines all outsourced not to elves, but to chicks to operate and churn them out, before making deliveries in one single day to all the kids. But as EB grows up, his propensity to take on the family business, or rather his calling in life, takes a hit and wanes because he aspires to dabble in music and play drums. Rather than take over from his father, he runs away to Hollywood to seek out his fortunes and thereby putting Easter potentially on hold, and bumps into Fred O’Hare (James Marsden), who is also kicked out of his family home because his father and family members find it a tad ridiculous that he mucks around home for the last one year doing nothing. So it’s a chance meeting of two similar sons set to prove themselves in a whole new world, and bring about the usual kids theme of friendship, perseverance, and plenty of juvenile comedy. Look out for David Hasselhoff playing himself, and the requisite cute bunnies collectively known as the Pink Berets who would probably steal the show. I have to admit though that some of the jokes do work, since it’s quite a wide spectrum from the usual toilet humour – EB poops delicious, multi-flavoured candy! – to a hilarious get up of the song I Love Candy with the duo continuing a ruse from earlier involving EB pretending to be a plush toy. This aspect of the film compensates for the lack of sophistication of the plot which for some weird reason has Fred not being satisfied with having validated that he’s not crazy with his young time witnessing of the Easter Bunny going about his one day routine, but desiring to instead become a bunny himself. That brought about what I thought was the most direct reference back to Despicable Me with the mindless bantering amongst the minions of the Easter Bunny’s factory, where second in command Carlos (Hank Azaria), in the absence of EB and his dad getting old, secretly coverts a plot to usurp the festivity and run the entire show himself. While the minions have different designs and varying degrees of intelligence, the chicks here adopt a uniform look, and as expected there’s always a smart alecky character to become cannon fodder for laughs. Besides priming itself for a respectable box office result when the Easter holiday rolls along, what this film would probably successfully do is to ramp up demand for rabbits and chicks amongst its targeted demographic, so parents, do spare a thought and taper those short term wants. Strictly for the kids. Do stay tuned until after the end credits for a scene to witness James Marsden’s Mandarin diction.

I have watched this film in 3d at a preview screening in London. First of all, I do not recommend anyone watching this in 3d. It is too dark and the action is just a motion blur. It’s dreadful. As for the film, there is much to enjoy with excellent visual effects, action set pieces (though ruined for me by the 3D) and a couple of stand out characters. But unfortunately there is also much to cringe at in some bouts of terrible dialogue. The characters of Reepicheep (the kick-ass warrior mouse) and Eustace, (the obnoxious brat cousin) were the most fun with the actor playing Eustace demonstrating excellent comic timing. The relationship between them was funny and touching. And they even brought much needed zest to the action. But alarmingly, Edmund and Lucy seem to have deteriorated as actors. Some of their emotions are too forced which is a pity. Not sure why, as I would expect them to improve with each film as did the young cast of the Harry Potter movies. Overall, the story has surprisingly been well adapted considering not a great deal actually happens in the book. But the pacing is good, even though a little episodic. There are much more Christian analogies once again which would please many and irritate others. But I rather like all of the analogies. I do feel however, that amongst adults, mostly those who enjoyed the Narnia books will enjoy this more than non readers of the books because the story is too bizarre even for a fantasy! But I think most children will enjoy this immensely, regardless if they read the books or not. With better written dialogue and better handling of the child performances (namely Lucy and Edmund), this could have been a much better film but as its stands its an enjoyable enough entry in this series. Oh and I will say it again, do not watch this in 3d.

If there is one thing I can easily compare this movie to, it’s Sonic Colors. Not only was this film unfairly judged by the fact that it was in 3D (And not by Pixar), but the sceptics had past experience to justify said suspicions (Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons), and even I came in not sure what to think. Yeah, the reception was much better than that of the aforementioned failures but still… and just like Sonic Colors, it proved every single nay-sayer almost completely wrong. For one thing, I think what made it work was that it plays out just like a 90’s Disney feature. Whatever modernization it has doesn’t go anywhere close to what Aladdin and Hercules had and for the most part, it takes itself seriously, and whatever humour it does have is legitimately funny. Bolt was also good, but it was more like a traditional live-action Disney feature while this is more like a traditional animated Disney feature. I was almost afraid this would suffer from Hoodwinked syndrome, and thankfully, it did not. There is not a single pop-culture reference for miles. All the songs are original, no product placement can be found. It works. Thankfully, the CGI for this is spectacular and the characters do move as if they were hand-drawn for the most part. Yes, I know the Disney animators would have much rather had this hand-drawn, which is why I’m even more impressed. With this in mind, they could have just as easily half-a**ed the whole thing but they didn’t. They realized they had a job to do and didn’t let that bring them down. Not much else to say in regards to the animations. The story is surprisingly intriguing and this is helped by the fact that like with TPATF, all of the characters are interesting, not just some. And as mentioned, it takes itself seriously meaning the characters never come across as too goofy. Thankfully, despite what the trailers led us to believe, the story focuses much more on Rapunzel than Flynn. Speaking of which, the trailers did this movie no justice at all. They heavily glorified the comedy aspect while putting too much focus on the guy when the girl was the main focus of the story. (That’s not to say Flynn wasn’t interesting. It’s just he’s more to Rapunzel what Dimitri was to Anastasia. Important but not the main focus) They also denied to their heart’s content one nice little aspect we all would have liked to know and I’m sure many of us discovered long ago: This movie is a musical consisting of 8 original tracks, all of which are very good… well, okay, I’m a bit neutral about the first one, but the others are incredible. It helps that the same guy who did the music for Beauty and the Beast composed these tracks. However, with all the praise I give this, there is one thing that gets to me and I have to take off points for as it’s pretty major (It’s also a major spoiler, so skip the next paragraph if you feel you must): When Rapunzel discovers that her ‘mother’ has been lying to her, was I the only one who thought her transition from loving her to hating her was a little too quick? Granted, she had a legitimate reason, but you’d think she’d have gone through the same mood swings she underwent after leaving the tower for the first time. Sure, her ‘mother’ was a villainous, deceitful woman, but she and Rapunzel had history and always shared loving words with one-another. Oh, and I kinda wish Maximus was in the movie more. Other than that, I’m gonna say the most controversial thing I could possibly say in regards to this film: I found it better than The Princess and the Frog. *Disney fans point guns at me* Whoa, there, put down the weapons and hear what I have to say. See, I love TPATF, but having watched through it 10 times since I got in on DVD, there are a few things that get to me. The personalities almost seem like they’re being shoved in our faces for the first half-hour and the development during the second half seemed only semi-natural. The characters in Tangled are a lot more believable and the message isn’t being shoved down our throats this time around. Anyway, to wrap this all up, Tangled is actually very, very good and definitely worth seeing. I can’t guarantee you’ll like it, but I still think it’s worth checking out: Final score: 9/10

Dreamworks is notorious for creating a combination of hits and misses – their misses can be anywhere between disappointing (Shrek 3) to just plain forgettable (Monsters vs Aliens), but you’d better believe that their hits hit HARD. Their most recent release, Megamind, coming hot of the heels of the DVD release for How to Train Your Dragon (arguably one of Dreamworks’ best), is, despite its poor press, a major HIT in my book. Two aliens are placed in escape pods as infants in order to flee their respective planets, each being devoured by a black hole. One, a well-groomed humanoid with extraordinary powers, crash-lands into the lap of luxury on Earth – the other, a blue, big-headed baby, falls not far away, right into a prison yard. Each a product of their upbringing, the two boys form an intense rivalry in their school (or “shool”) days, as one becomes the egotistical, he-man hero of the classroom, and the other quickly devolves into an outcast. This latter child, fed up with trying to gain acceptance, decides to turn villain on his rival – when the boys become men, they name themselves Metro Man (Brad Pitt) and Megamind (Will Ferrell), and engage in constant battles set in Metro City. One day, when Megamind actually succeeds in killing the famed superhero, he takes control of the city, turning it into a den of chaos. However, without a hero to fight, Megamind feels that he has lost his purpose, and seeks to create a new hero and rival to liven up his life again. This movie works for 3 main reasons – first, the characters. Will Ferrell as Megamind is simply brilliant; flawed but lovable, we pity the guy for all the crap he took that drove him to villainy, we appreciate his intelligence while still laughing at his screw-ups and flamboyant nature. Surprisingly enough, what could’ve easily just been a purely comic protagonist became a 3-dimensional character, and you actually get to care deeply for him. Brad Pitt’s small but memorable role as Metro Man provides great comedy and a snide parody of a certain Man of Steel. And let’s not forget Roxanne Ritchi, voiced by Tina Fey – your typical Lois Lane damsel-in-distress. While Roxanne *does* seem to get kidnapped a lot, she never loses her cool… mainly because Megamind simply doesn’t threaten her. She’s brave, but she still gets scared. She’s smart, but she can make stupid mistakes. She’s kind and a bit naive without losing that snarky grin. She isn’t the *most* rounded heroine out there, but she has her moments, and overall, she’s a pretty likable character. Jonah Hill and David Cross are also great, of course, with Hill’s character of Hal being oddly 3-dimensional himself, and Cross’ being little more than a voice-of-reason for Megamind to play off of. The second thing that keeps Megamind from crashing is the script – it’s genuinely funny and heartfelt without seeming pretentious. The comedic moments work because they really are funny. The serious moments work because they have genuine heart – they balance solemn with sweet with sad, all without losing that honest streak that ties them together. When Megamind hurts, you truly feel his pain, and even if it doesn’t exactly tug your heart-strings, it definitely serves to further your emotional investment in the movie. And finally, the animation is just awesome. ‘Nuff said. I saw it in 2D, but based on what I saw, the 3D showing would be well worth it. Truly one of Dreamworks’ hits, Megamind captures just the right combination of crazy humour and lovable characters to create a, dare I say it, MEGA-AWESOME film that kids and adults can both enjoy. 9/10

“Alpha and Omega” is your standard kiddy flick of conflict and resolution with much detail to the 3D imagery and not enough to keep Mom and Dad entertained. The story brings nothing new to the party; it’s like the friend that you invite and tell him to bring a side dish. “Toy Story 3″ spends all night baking cookies for everyone. “Despicable Me” puts forth an effort by bringing barbecue weenies in a Crock Pot. “How to Train Your Dragon” takes the time and mixes 7-Up and punch. Then there is “Alpha and Omega,” who stops at the local gas station and picks up a fun sized bag of Doritos for itself and arrives 30 minutes late. The story begins by introducing us to the main characters, Humphrey (voiced by Justin Long, the guy from the Apple commercials) as the Omega wolf and Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere from “Heroes”), as the Alpha wolf. They are acquaintances at the beginning of the movie, where it is hinted at that Humphrey has a crush on Kate. After a winter at Alpha school Kate is being trained to become a leader of the pack and Humphrey is still palling around with his knucklehead friends. Humphrey and Kate’s wolf pack has a rival pack that is trying to take the caribou hunting from them. That doesn’t fare well with Winston (voiced by Danny Glover) who is not only the leader of the pack but also Kate’s father. And, who is the leader of the rival pack? It’s Tony (voiced by Dennis Hopper, in his last film), who has some unexplained history with Winston. Tony. Really? This great wolf is the leader, the old wise sage, and that’s the best name they could come up with? Tony the Wolf. Sounds too much like Tony the Tiger. Humphrey is in love with Kate but she is arranged to be courted by the rival pack’s Alpha male, Garth. The packs have a ritual where the adolescents meet at a mountain in Jasper National Park to howl at the moon. It’s comparable to going to a junior high dance at the taxidermy display inside a Cabela’s. There was a song and dance element here that felt out of place. I felt uncomfortable to see these wolves dance seductively together in a kid’s film. At that point, I understood why wolves chewed off their own leg when caught in a trap. At the “howling” Humphrey and Kate are hit with a dart gun and transported from their park in Canada to a park in Idaho. Here they are set free and it’s up to them to find a way back home. The couple is eventually befriended by Marcel, some sort of a cross between a Canadian goose and either a bald eagle or a vulture (I couldn’t tell) and his side kick Paddy, a yellow duck. These two birds are avid golfers. Hitting the golf ball gives the movie a reason to exploit their 3D technology. Hey, you paid for it; you might as well use it, right guys? Marcel and Paddy keep showing up during the movie to act as guides for Humphrey and Kate. It’s not fully explained how these four keep running into each other but it just so happens that they always show up at the right time. The rest of the picture is about how Humphrey and Kate work as a team to get back home while realizing an Alpha and Omega wolf can have deep feelings for each other. Should you see this movie? Nope. It was trying to be kiddy movie with goofy elements of bathroom humor and at the same time a movie with adult themes about falling in love. The 3D action sequences were well done. There were several scenes of Humphrey finding old trees to slide down hills and incorporate the first and second person angles of sliding. And, as my 11-year-old daughter pointed out, whenever these wolves needed an old tree to use as a sled it just so happened to be within reaching distance. How many dead trees are there in a forest? If you absolutely feel that you still need to go, bring your kids if they are under the age of 10 and if they have very little imagination on their own. Or just wait until it’s out on DVD because after you spend $10 each you won’t be howling with excitement, it will be more of a whimper.

Very first off let me commence by saying when you believed the initial a person sucked than you should almost certainly steer obvious of this a single. If not nevertheless you should defiantly check this one particular out. Entire the story moves much more quickly, is loaded with additional laughs along with the SFX are cleaner and much better. All of the main players through the 1st 1 are back, but that doesn’t mean you should see the primary 1 to delight in aspect 2. The new hero introduced can be a German Shepard named Diggs that’s a police dog in the humorous and inspired opening. Soon after Diggs disregards his police human master and blows up a utilized auto lot Diggs is Jailed so to speak. Enter the dogs from portion 1. From there the jokes are rapidly and furious, some hitting home and some missing, but total, I had a smile on my face the total time, and my eleven year old loved just about every minute. There exists one more new edition on the crew a pigeon picked up mid way through the motion picture that is down suitable hilarious. The voice function is well completed, and in 1 really inspired moment Mr. Tinkles the principal villain from part 1 shows up to do a gut busting scene taken straight from Silence from the Lambs. It really is at this moment you may groan or laugh in spite of yourself and genuinely really feel the film is worth your dollars. All in all a great household film which will have kids enjoying themselves and enough stuff to keeps the parents entertained. Note I saw the 3D version and absolutely nothing is truly extra from your effect, nevertheless the picture is clean and vibrant.

Despicable Me’s teasers and trailers seemed to represent a handful of distinct films, and that’s reflected by the basic segregation of comedy designs how the film starts with. In the film’s start, Gru (Steve Carrell) handles the dark comedy, the trio of orphans get the cutesy comedy, plus the minions handle the slapstick. As the movie progresses, although, these lines commence to blur, creating to a powerful emotional finale along with a satisfyingly complete tale. (This is one of those rare non-Pixar animated films that doesn’t appear destined for sequel-dom.) The tale of rival villains isn’t terribly original. Nor would be the idea of a villain possessing his heart melted by adorable children. But the way in which Despicable Me blends these two ideas is just fantastic. There’s humor, action, and heart — what far more could you desire from an animated film? Also notable could be the way the star-studded voice cast handles their characters. Whilst you’ll find a ton of large names filling out the roster, most of them use accents which render them familiar but not too very much so. It’s a different route than many animated films take, and it’s refreshing. Julie Andrews and Steve Carrell particularly do effectively at straddling the line among their trademark voices and their characters’ accents. The voice that steals the movie, however, is the adorable Elsie Fisher as Agnes. Almost every single line gets either a laugh or an “Aw..
.” (Over a associated note, I really like how the orphan girls are named Edith, Margo, and Agnes. I love old names for young folks.) The plot has sufficient twists and turns to maintain issues fascinating, along with the antics with the minions provide a nice side of enjoyable towards the proceedings. Also, their reaching contest during the credits is really a enjoyment use of 3-D that had the children inside the theater reaching with the screen. Last 12 months was a banner year for animation, and this year seems to be following suit. Tips on how to Train Your Dragon astonished, Toy Story three is a single in the greatest animated films of all time, and Despicable Me impresses. A incredibly pleasant shock.Evren Buyruk

Last week, a buddy of mine invited me to attend a unique screening in the movie. In spite of in no way seeing the cartoon, I thought the trailer looked truly cool and due to the fact I’m a Big fan of martial arts films, I figured it can be a enjoyable evening out. Additionally, I desired to give Mr. Shayamalan one last chance to impress me given that he’s obtained a very spotty record since “The Sixth Sense.” Note: SPOILERS begin in paragraph four and they are announced. Primary, let’s talk casting. Judging by the previews, I assumed the movie was heading being a martial arts film established in Asia and was completely expecting to find out a large cast of Asian actors. Boy was I wrong! The initial scene in the video plays (right after some really cool 3-D credits I may well add) and to my surprise the key two figures Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (Jackson Rathbone) are white. A few moments later, the star on the movie, Aang (Noah Ringer), is launched and I discovered myself leaning more than to my friend to whisper “is that kid Asian?” She replied, “I do not know, maybe he’s mixed.” Because movie progressed, and Ringer’s southern accent introduced itself, I realized two things. Just one, the casting for this film is way off and two, my hopes and dreams for any child martial artist for the same level as Hung Man Ting (Miu Tse) from Jet Li’s “New Legend of Shaolin” (click right here) were dashed. On towards the movie…Overall, I believed film was mediocre and all from the acting was quite lousy across the board. The way the actors delivered every line of dialogue made me cringe as well as the men and women behind me sigh. It felt such as the actors experienced spent so a great deal time understanding their lines that they experienced no time to work on generating their characters believable. Nevertheless, this may possibly not have been all their fault given that nearly every line of dialogue was so about the nose. Typically movies like this meticulously reveal just sufficient info about every single character and also the story to maintain us intrigued…not this motion picture. In case you desire to know why Princess Yue has blue eyes, she’s heading to tell you in a two minute dissertation Exactly why her eyes are blue. This struck me as odd considering that Mr. Shayamalan is known for his “twist” endings and was famously able to maintain all of us inside the dark with the huge reveal within the “Sixth Sense.” I thought how could there be such mystery to individuals characters (from his other movies), yet these figures in Airbender are singing like canary’s each and every time they appear around the screen. SPOILERS Begin HERE… Sadly, character ambiguity wasn’t the only point missing from this video, there also seemed being a absence of character improvement. Zuko (Dev Patel) and his father Firelord Ozai (Cliff Curtis) obtained some significant father/son beef in this film. This beef could have actually been played out to be the ultimate loved ones feud and give Zuko and Firelord Ozai some actual character depth. Alternatively, their whole storyline fell completely flat with speak, talk, speak. There was a great deal of talking about what happened to produce their relationship so estranged but there was no actual action or scenes to indicate us firsthand how Zuko was banished on the family or how Firelord Ozai favored Zuko’s sister over him. Actually, all speak and no action seemed to be the typical theme throughout this whole movie. Two much more figures who suffered from Mr. Shayamalan’s zero character advancement syndrome was Sokka and Princess Yue. Instead of us gradually watching their really enjoy for each and every other develop, we simply see Sokka arrive at the Drinking water Country 1 day, he makes eye contact with Princess Yue for any moment, and then abracadabra…in the really subsequent scene, they’re deeply in really enjoy. Naturally 1 of the main figures comes out and tells us that they’ve now been in the Water Country for weeks now but we never get the possibility to find out this. Consequently it feels rushed and we don’t truly get a chance to explore the Water Country using the key characters prior to the bad guys arrive. Sigh. Finally there is Aang. I truly desired to care for Aang but the nonchalant way his back story was presented made it genuinely difficult to think sorry for him. So he runs aside from the monastery and when he returns a hundred many years after, all on the monks who raised him happen to be annihilated by the Fire Country. That’s a quite dire situation for a kid to option with. Sadly, all of the film shows us when Aang returns to the scene in the crime is a sea of skeletons scattered throughout a field. Aang looked very sad but the audience sure didn’t appear to care. I imagine for us to genuinely sense some thing for Aang it could possibly have worked far better if perhaps we see him operate aside appropriate ahead of the monastery is invaded. This way we have an emotional connection to what Aang is experiencing when he returns house. A similar movie that did this good and alternatively quickly was “The Golden Kid.” Just before the Golden Child was kidnapped by Sardo Numspa and his cronies, there is a scene where various monks have been killed in order for them to kidnap the Golden Kid. With no two words of dialogue, this scene made us think sorry with the Golden Child considering that he’s just witnessed his folks currently being wiped out correct prior to his eyes and we know that this kid should be something exceptional for Numspa to go via so very much problems to have him. What was beneficial about the movie you might ask? Effectively, Shaun Toub was really excellent as Uncle Iroh, he presented some depth with his character but unfortunately it was by no means completely fleshed out. M. Night Shayamalan lastly did a movie where he didn’t cast himself. The film also experienced some actually good specific effects and also the costumes had been outstanding. James Newton Howard did a phenomenal job with composing the music from begin to finish. He’s sure to acquire another Oscar nom for this one particular. And eventhough Dev Patel’s portrayal of Zuko began out with a lot of overacting, he improved a whole lot by the end on the video. To conclude, my main matter with Airbender was its absence of subtlety. Shayamalan acquired a tendency by means of the movie and its dialogue to force feed us every little nugget of data alternatively than trusting that we ‘d be wise adequate to figure things out for ourselves. Having not seen the cartoon, I can’t genuinely comment on regardless of whether the video does or does not do it justice. Nevertheless, I will say that like a martial arts, fantasy action movie, Airbender was quite painful to watch. The film ended with a total set-up with the sequel to appear but after reading about all of the controversy surrounding the casting options plus the lackluster performances in the motion picture, I have to wonder if Component II will ever see the light of day. I’m really fascinated to find out what occurs when the movie hits theaters next week.

I am a 21 year old male. I watched the 1st Toy Tale in theaters when I had been 7 years old plus the second Toy Story when I used to be 11. These films are a component of my childhood and I can assure you anybody among the ages of 18-30 have a special connection like I do for them. I personally happen to be waiting for this movie for 10 decades now, since the ending sequences in Toy Story two. Ten long a long time later on, I lastly received my wish. Toy Tale three is the tale of our classic and new favored characters Woody, Buzz, Slinky, Ham, Rex and pals as they make an effort to cope using the truth that Andy is proceeding off to college. They haven’t been played with in decades and they\\\’re getting restless. As a great deal because they desire to think Andy will conserve them and maintain them from the attic as Woody predicts, our beloved toys start to query his motives as college day is coming and Andy\\\’s aged room is beginning to deteriorate right into a trash maintain. Which will Andy choose upon? The plot for this movie at primary glance produced me really satisfied, seeing as Pixar as well as the writers are trying to stick to the time frame we are accustomed to. Back in 1999 when Andy found his new toys Jesse and Bullseye, he was still a little one with imagination and joy to play with these toys. Ten many years after, he is no extended a little one but grown into a graduating senior who\’s prepared to venture off the university with the initial time. This plot is often a traditional scenario that new-bound university teens offer with on their moving date: whether or not to quit maintain on our childish bonds. It\\\’s time to grow up sometime. This plot grabbed me in quickly. As the rest in the movie continued, Pixar led us on a traditional Toy Tale adventure, much such as the opening scene in Toy Story exactly where the Army men move downstairs to find what Andy receives in his birthday presents, or even the scene in Toy Story 2 exactly where the gang make an effort to manage their way towards the toy store across the highway. These really uncomplicated and drawn out scenes are what grab our awareness because of the detail with every move, every single instant that our close friends are in peril. They also support a kid who is watching to utilize their thoughts to adhere to together, from 1 frame to one more, as Woody jumps from floor to toilet seat to toilet paper roll and almost falls creating applause, up on the stall to the ledge and out the window for freedom. These actions take a good deal from a child to stay along, which helps create brain activity in issue solving. Stage 1 to Phase 6 leads to achievement, and this can be a positive attribute to teach to our youngsters. This film can be a tiny more time than most child films, close to 2 hours, which is often a perfectly acceptable time frame for a motion picture so anticipated. Possessing it be under 90 minutes would are already a tiny selfish for that animators seeing because they knew how extended we waited for this. If you\’re seeing this in 3D (which I think can be a should) you will probably be drawn in very simply and your awareness will be kept throughout. With introductions of new characters and vigorous imagery, it\’s difficult to lose track of what\\\’s going on. The animation was flawless as typical, storyline near to perfection, characters are lovable… I really see no cause to dislike this movie. General I gave it an 8 out of 10. This film lives up towards the primary 2 inside series, not so sure about getting much better than the original. Near but undecided. You are able to make your own judgment call. If you\’re among the ages of 18-30 or you have youngsters of your own, this movie is 1 of the improved ones you\’ll see all yr. Be considered a child once again, it won’t hurt for 2 hrs.
