Description

A group of bounty hunters called The Expendables fight pirates and drug lords, and play knife darts on their lunch break. That’s the synopsis, so let’s talk about execution. I think it’s fair to draw comparisons with the recent The A-Team. In The Expendables the plot is less imaginative and more repetitive, with the fellas flying in and out of the island with some Mickey Rourke mumblings in the middle (supposedly to give it emotional core). And the good guys are kind of bland, especially the bore of an action star Jason Statham. The baddies however, mainly Steve Austin, have real character and charisma in this one. I also think Dolph Lundgren steals the show from Stallone, who’s the central character but kind of acting as the coach and not the biggest player. You know a good one liner when you hear one, not when you read one. Much is in the delivery, and the context. With a film like this the screenwriters put themselves in an easy situation by having The Expendables compete with each other, cracking jokes like regular buddies do. I think Terry Crews got the best one with “He says you’re dead in foreign language”. No surprise however, Arnold Schwarzenegger got the biggest laughs just by showing up. The subplot involving Jason Statham and Charisma Carpenter should have been left at the cutting room floor, even the fight scene that came out of it. Yep, shaky cam is involved with most of the action scenes and it sucks most of the time. The fights themselves are mainly good, however. This is the closest to pro wrestling choreography a main stream film has got like ever, with the exception that actual pro wrestling is filmed much better. You see Sly doing a choke slam, and everyone is doing body slams. Someone did a jack-knife power bomb as well. The film like many of its ilk cater to those short of attention span, keeping the camera-work hectic not once having the guts to try if anything that goes on has legs to stand on its own. The end result, in this case, is not as much annoying but so and so. Watching a film like this is an okay way to spend some time, but nothing that goes on rises above mediocrity. Not saying it even tries, by the way. There’s just one more thing – I think Dolph Lundgren would have won the fight against Jet Li.

Adam McKay is not a household name yet, but movie buffs like me know that when he teams up with Will Ferrell, magic happens. The former “Saturday Night Live” writer directed Ferrell in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (2004), “Talladega Nights” (2006), and even the popular viral video “The Landlord” (2007). Movies with Ferrell that have not involved McKay have tried to duplicate the success of “Anchorman”, but have failed ( i.e. “Semi-Pro” (2008), “Land of the Lost” (2009)). As director and co-writer of “The Other Guys”, McKay brings the best out of Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, and the rest of the cast. It combines action and comedy better than any similar comedy I have seen in a long time. “The Other Guys” refers to, of course, the detectives who rarely get a piece of the archetypal cops-and-robbers shenanigans that are frequently seen in action movies or on “Law & Order”. They remain mainly at their desks doing paperwork, something almost never seen in movies. Ferrell is Allen Gamble, who is somewhat content with managing case work on his computer, and Wahlberg is the far more forceful and ambitious Terry Hoitz. Their characters are in sharp contrast to the cops that Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson portray in this film (and definitely in other films). Although Jackson and Johnson were also funny here, I hate that the previews gave away their cameos in this movie. It would have been more exciting if the audience didn’t expect them when they stepped into the theaters. Then again, that is the fault of whomever marketed this film, not the filmmakers themselves. When Allen and Terry start working on a case they have a lead in, one they get to before other senior detectives do, a really interesting detective story progresses that would not feel out of place in dramas like “The French Connection” (1971) or similar action/detective movies to that nature. ”When you do a comedy, it does no good to reference comedies,” writer and director Adam McKay told Entertainment Weekly, ”You want to treat it like a drama 80% of the way. Then, at the last 20%, you f**k it up”. The last 20% made this movie work, naturally. More than that, though, Ferrell didn’t get all the funny lines, which is the mistake that many buddy cop movies such as the recent “Cop Out” (2010) make. Wahlberg is as intense as he usually is in most movies, but he has laugh- out-loud hilarious lines that he plays effectively with a straight face. His line about being a peacock may make AFI’s Most Memorable Movie Quote list in the next few years, and the hot water his character got into in an incident involving Derek Jeter (making a cameo as himself) made the audience at my screening cheer. Of course, I saw the movie in Boston, but I’m just saying. However, the 20% of the movie that was funny was further enhanced by the story. Again, many buddy cop movies of recent years that have tried to be “48 Hours” make the mistake of introducing the villain early on, similar to a superhero comic book. This movie has you try to solve the mystery along with Ferrell and Wahlberg, and there are some decent twists and turns that really make you wonder who the culprit is. I will say that the mystery was a bit confusing, especially since it involves a Rupert- Murdoch-meets-Donald-Trump tycoon (Steve Coogan) and some financial plot. As a critic, I could pretend to accurately interpret everything that I see on screen. However, I’m not a Wall Street expert, and numbers involved in trading, stocks & bonds, and all the rest confuse me. Nonetheless, even if you watch this movie not knowing who’s wrong or right and why, you will still love the ride. The closing credits featured cleverly-animated financial facts pertaining to the recent financial meltdown, which appeared to be meticulously researched but still out of place. Their presence reminded me of Charlie Chaplin’s anti-Nazi plea for humanity at the end of “The Great Dictator” (1941). His speech didn’t fit the slapstick comedy of the first 90% of the movie, but looking back, it was still necessary to hear. I feel as though this montage of facts may have the same effect. Overall, though, “The Other Guys” is not just another movie. Some gags seemed a bit out of place, and the tired plot point of the police chief pulling the main cops off the case still seeped its way into the story. However, it helped that that chief was Michael Keaton in what could be a comeback performance, and that he had some hysterical lines as well. The movie tells a great story, everyone in the movie is funny with appearing to try too hard (especially in Ferrell’s case), and the ensemble cast works together perfectly. In a year of mediocre (non-animated) comedies, “The Other Guys” lives up to its hype.

The very same folks who to me are surprisingly rudely negative about this film would probably say I am as well simply pleased, but I get pleasure from videos as escapism with the most component and see no have to choose this very gratifying vehicle to death. Really, some early negatives I’d study had me worried that I can be irritated I spent the income, instead I’ve already decided to purchase this when it comes out. All round, I’d say in the event you like romping uncomplicated films like the Mummy, National Treasure, and Lake Placid you will like this, plus refreshingly (with no becoming sickeningly sweet) there just isn’t a single swear word or sexed-up scene, so bring the older kids and Grandma. I believed Nicolas Cage was exceptional, he looked excellent and can wear a leather duster greater than most, and there is some great chemistry involving Cage and Baruchel. Alred Molina looked like he was owning enjoyment and is also this kind of an pleasurable villain. Baruchel does an excellent career – he is so geeky at times it can be a tad painful – and I found myself rooting for him. The 2 main female characters are lovely and appealing personalities. More pluses: A lively pace and I by no means lost interest as well as a fair quantity of laughs. Some intriguing character twists using the oily youthful rock-star magician helping Molina, and some quite funny cheeky nods to the original animated Fanatasia – watch for that nod to Star Wars. Excellent and exciting exclusive results that created sense once they were definitely applied. Even the way the actors moved whenever they were undertaking magic was quite very good (for some motive the wand-waving in Harry Potter occasionally reminds me of folks applying a flyswatter or shaking a bug off a stick, that didn’t occur in this movie).
So no, this isn’t some classic of cinema, it is what it really is and is often a bit thin here and there, but it’s also rather fine for a “magical romp” and is in no way a undesirable movie or perhaps a waste of money. I could have accomplished without the occasional background songs which seemed intended to emphasize romantic angst or appeal to youthful teenagers, but that was bearable. I saw this at an early evening demonstrate and there were definitely not many people inside the theater, but we all laughed and there was applause at the end, and we left the theater smiling. Personally I think the critics panning this are full of BS or are wanting to prove what intellectuals they’re. In the meantime see this together with your loved ones or carry your pals, after which go out and get some ice cream and sit outside and take pleasure in summer time. Hope they make a sequel, too.

Nothing much has changed in the Twilight universe and if there is a difficulty with Eclipse that’s the greatest 1. I’m told repeatedly by fans that the up coming movie will get actually crazy, but for now we’re sort of stuck rehashing the exact same story we saw in the very last film. A depressed, awkward woman named Bella (Kristen Stewart) is in really like using a vampire (Robert Pattinson).
Her vampire feels terribly guilty about this and wishes she’d stop. Meanwhile, Bella’s being politely stalked by a roid-raging werewolf named Jacob (Taylor Lautner), who hopes to steal her away in the other guy prior to he finally obtains close to to sucking out her blood. This is a career I’m fairly confident every other slightly self-respecting vampire would have gotten carried out just before the end of motion picture a single, but here we are in the third film even now debating the very same old blood sucking issues. Maybe that’s not all bad. The greatest point about Eclipse is that it at the least efforts to treat complicated emotions in a complicated way. Every other enjoy tale would have had these two married and honeymooning in Vegas long ago, but Eclipse, even additional so than the other two films, is determined to examine their emotions and their romantic relationship possibilities from each angle. Person moments occasionally perform but there’s by no means truly a major image beyond Bella’s obsession with Edward that looks to matter or make any authentic sense. There’s some effort to set up a broad vampire conspiracy, but all of that looks utterly out of step with all of the romantic pondering going on through the rest from the film. It feels like it is only there as an afterthought, because the author knew that even teenage girls can only consider so very much romantic introspection. And perhaps that’s the true problem. A lot of Eclipse plays out like filler. At times it indulges in flashbacks, which do absolutely nothing to move the story. Bella goes to graduation, however it plays no genuine part inside the tale. Her human buddies make another cameo, but they have no impact on her existence other than to consider up room up coming to Bella at a party. There is a big battle, however it feels like it is only there with the sake of having a big battle. At the very least this time the action sequences make some try to become entertaining. They are not particularly well staged, the last fight takes spot in an open industry we are told it gives the outnumbered Cullen coven a tactical advantage. Except standing within an open industry waiting for superior forces to walk out from the forest and slaughter you was type of discredited as being a legitimate tactic somewhere close to the Revolutionary War. Nevertheless whilst the tactics are poor and some in the special effects are not perfect, they are still a big phase up from the prior motion picture. Director David Slade has a lot of fun pounding the diamond-constructed vampires of Stephanie Meyers’ planet into literal dust. That it is not the hardcore fanged killing of Slade’s very last vampire motion picture, 30 Days of Night, but lost inside Twilight wilderness, it’ll do. Nevertheless even those battles are just type of there to break up all the endless talking about Edward and Bella’s partnership. Twilight: Eclipse is pretty well acted and directed, but what exactly is it that all this work is getting put into producing? Twilight: Eclipse functions nicely enough, but what are we watching? It’s actually genuinely just an unlimited conversation about an immature, moody, teenage girl’s feelings. In a globe devoid of funds to be created, possibly that wouldn’t have deserved 3 full films. Please Bella, grow up.

OK. I saw this movie in the theatres and it was very funny. This is a typical Adam Sandler/Kevin James comedy like I now pronounce you chuck and larry. This movie was very stupid and there were so many epic fails and stupidity going on throughout the movie. I got tired of those when I was watching this movie. It was still funny though. There were a lot of people rolling on floor laughing and stuff like that. But a very stupid normal Adam Sandler movie. I recommend this to only adam sandler fans. You’ll have fun but you’ll get bored by the fails that they have in the movie. I’ll give this movie a 6/10. It a plain comedy. xD

(Synopsis) Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) is a 12-year-old living in Detroit when his mom Sherry (Taraji Henson) gets a career in China. Dre starts to like China when he falls for his classmate Mei Ying (Wenwen Han).
Dre\\\’s feelings for Mei Ying are noticed by Cheng (Zhenwei Wang) the class bully who is out to stop it. Cheng puts Dre for the ground with ease applying his Kung Fu training. Dre doesn\\\’t possess a probability using the tiny karate that he knows, and Cheng proves it the subsequent time he sees Dre. Dre is getting beaten badly when Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) the maintenance man, secretly a Kung Fu Master, stops the battle. Dre persuades Mr. Han to teach him Kung Fu. With this knowledge, Dre need to now face down Cheng in a battle to win his respect inside a Kung Fu tournament. (My Comment) This is somewhat of the remake of the Karate Kid. The script brings an international flavor on the screen in this bully-victim who turns martial arts expert and eventual hero. The storyline could be the a single in which the underdog need to battle to prove himself, and within the meantime everyone learns a lesson about life. The film belongs to Jaden Smith, the son of Will Smith, who dominates about every scene in the movie. His display screen presence is basically incredible for such a young person. Jackie Chan\\\’s portrayal is rather awesome as Dre\\\’s teacher. The movie can stand on its own, simply because the setup is totally diverse than the original. All mothers will really like it when Dre learns to hang his jacket up and not leave it on the floor. You\’ll find some stunning mountain and Fantastic Wall of China scenes which are utilized in obtaining Dre into shape. You nearly start to wonder if the story was transformed, and Dre may well not be able to finish the match through the end in the film. The film was merely enjoyable to watch with some touching moments as well as the Kung Fu was outstanding. This is a go to motion picture. (Columbia Photos, Operate Time 2:06, Rated PG) (8/10)

Universal Studios resurrects the classic lycanthrope with this tale of an American who experiences an unsettling transformation after returning to his ancestral home in Victorian-era Great Britain and being attacked by a rampaging werewolf. His brother having recently vanished without a trace, haunted nobleman Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro) returns to his family estate to investigate. What he discovers upon reuniting with his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins), however, is a destiny far darker than his blackest nightmares. As a young boy, the untimely death of his mother caused Talbot to grow up before his time. Though Talbot would attempt to bury his pain in the past by leaving the quiet Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor behind, the past returns with a vengeance when his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), convinces him to return home and aid the search for his missing brother. But something monstrous has been stalking the residents of Blackmoor from the nighttime shadows, something not quite human. Not even recently arrived Scotland Yard inspector Aberline (Hugo Weaving) can dream up a rational explanation for the gruesome spell that has been cast over Blackmoor, yet rumors of an ancient curse persist to this very day. According to legend, the afflicted will experience a horrific transformation by the light of the full moon, their animal rage becoming far too powerful for their human bodies to contain. Now, the woman Talbot loves is in mortal danger, and in order to protect her he must venture into the moonlit woods and destroy the beast before it destroys her. But this isn’t your typical hunt, because before the beast can be slain, a simple man will uncover a primal side of himself that he never knew existed. Screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker pens a film directed by Joe Johnston and featuring creature effects by special-effects makeup legend Rick Baker.
